Paul Jackson gained degrees from the University of East Anglia, City University and Anglia Ruskin University. Before joining the University in 1992 he was active as a performer and teacher in London, holding posts at the Royal College of Music and the University of Hertfordshire. For several years he was co-director of the music-theatre company Innererklang, with whom he commissioned and premiered several new works. He is active as a conductor and pianist and for the university he directs the Anglia Symphony Orchestra, the contemporary music group Anglia Sinfonia and also Anglia Opera which mounts bi-annual opera productions at the Mumford Theatre. His teaching and research interests include composition, improvisation, electro-acoustic music and twentieth-century music in general and the music of Luciano Berio and Percy Grainger in particular.
